For this assignment you are to watch the popular film Silver Linings Playbook (2012, R), in which several central characters suffer from mental disorders. After viewing the movie, write a paper which specifically addresses the following questions:
Diagnose the mental illnesses portrayed by the central characters in the film using DSM-5 diagnostic criteria as outlined in the textbook.
Identify the DSM criteria/symptoms of each diagnosis and discus how well the character’s portrayal fits the diagnostic criteria. For each criterion, cite examples of how the character did or did not exhibit the symptom.
Identify possible treatments for the disorders, including those attempted in the movie (if any) and common treatments you have learned about in class. Discuss the likely course of treatment and prognosis for an individual with this disorder.
Critically evaluate whether you believe the film accurately portrayed the mental illnesses.
The essay must at least 2,000 words in length. Include the word count on the title page.
Follow current APA format. A reference page is required; an abstract page is not required.
This essay should be evaluative in terms of critically examining and analyzing the questions presented above, and not simply a narrative which tells a story of the who, what, when, where, why and how of the film.
