You will be conducting research on a psychological disorder:
You may select ONE topic from the following list of psychological disorders.
– Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
-Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
-Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
– Bipolar I Disorder
– Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
-Schizophrenic Spectrum Disorder
– Eating Disorder (Anorexia Nervosa)
– Eating Disorder (Bulimia Nervosa)
– Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Whichever you choose, the written research portion for diagnostic criteria and symptoms must be located and identified within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th Edition
(DSM-V).
You can locate this text at most libraries, and it is available at the Victoria College Library.
Directions: Analyze and discuss in detail one psychological disorder listed in the DSM-V. Provide evidence and descriptive details in regards to DSM diagnosis (i.e. criteria and symptoms). Analyze, interpret, and discuss prevalence rates in regards to the disorder.
List the possible treatments available for the diagnosis, including biomedical and psychotherapeutic approaches. Identify and discuss all positive and/or negative physiological health effects of the disorder and/or treatment. Examine and discuss the social and/or cultural effects of mental health. For example, mentally healthy Americans who do not possess the chosen disorder versus mentally unhealthy groups of Americans who do possess the disorder (i.e. social stigma, cultural intolerance, etc.). Also discuss the role government may play in the existence of the diagnosis
(i.e. socio economic status (SES), disability assistance, employment/unemployment issues, etc.).

Research Requirements:
You must use AT LEAST 4 official references. One reference MUST be the DSM-V.
All other references must be retrieved from a textbook and/or official online journal/aritcle through the library database (“EBSCOHOST”- see UHV/VC Library). No unofficial online articles and/or websites allowed (Ex. Wikipedia, google, yahoo, wedMD, Mayoclinic etc.) All references will be checked. (Note: Pay attention to publication dates. You will want to present up-to-date research in your essay. Outdated information will be subject to point deduction. Anything before 2013, may be outdated).
You may use MLA or APA when citing sources. Make sure to cite each reference within the essay and submit a reference/works cited page behind your completed essay (using your preferred method of formatting).
Paper format should INCLUDE V# IN YOUR HEADER, have 1 inch margins, be double-spaced, 12pt font, and Times New Roman.
