Assume you are a child psychology professional with particular expertise in adolescent child development. You have been working with Miguel and his family for several months. Miguel has been referred to truancy court for school refusal. You have decided to use your work with Miguel’s family as a case study. To prepare for this assessment, complete the following: View the Child Psychology Case Study Profiles: Miguel media piece, linked in the Resources under the Required Resources heading. Use the Capella library and other materials linked in the Resources to research your preferred theory and interventions. Then, write a 4–5-page keynote speech for the conference, being sure to include the following: Assess Miguel’s needs in early adolescence, citing your preferred theorist. Assess Miguel’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. Assess the influence of family, society, and culture, related to the identified issues. Apply evidence-based concepts to develop recommendations. Construct a professional speech, supporting key points with APA references. Write clearly and succinctly, with no grammatical errors.

GENDER: Male, ETHNICITY: Hispanic, AGE: 13 years, GRADE: Junior High
Home Life
Miguel continues to live at home with his parents and three siblings. The family still has financial challenges, and his older brother and sister have taken part time jobs to help out with the finances. This means that Miguel is expected to help care for his little brother. The primary language in the household is still Spanish, but Miguel has been trying to teach his little brother and parents more English.
School Life
Miguel still has a slight speech impairment, which makes him reluctant to speak up in class. He doesn’t really stand out in the classroom, but he receives average to passing grades. Miguel has tried out and made the school soccer team, and he is very excited about playing. He’s made some friends on the soccer team, but he still isn’t real outgoing. He remains reserved and is still somewhat sensitive about his language deficits. Miguel’s biggest concern at the moment is trying to balance his extracurricular soccer activities with his parents’ expectation that he care for his younger brother while everyone else in the family works.
