Recent Developments in School Law

As a school leader it is imperative to keep abreast of recent developments in school law.
Each candidate will review the Journal of Law and Education on a weekly basis from Weeks 2-6 for the 2016 and 2017 issues. Assignment #2 will require that you identify one school law story from this Journal from Weeks 2-6 of the semester. Outline the five selected cases presented on this Journal as described in Week #7. Refer to Week #7 for further details.
Recent Developments in School Law
As a school leader it is imperative to keep abreast of recent developments in school law.
Candidates should have accessed the Journal of Law and Education for the 2016 and 2017 years.
Provide information for the following seven (7) categories for one Journal story.
Each student will submit 5 Journal article summaries for these topics:
1. First Amendment
2. ESE – Exceptional Student Education
3. Student Privacy and First Amendment Rights
4. Due Process and Student Discipline
5. Student Search
( These topics are also the Category Filed)
This list of topics can be changed. You can repeat a topic if you like and take another topic off. As long as you have 5 Journal Article Summaries!!!

THE FORMAT OF THE ASSIGNMENT (Written 5 times)
Each Journal summary should include the following categories. If information is not available for a specific category indicate “not applicable” or N/A.
1. Title of Journal article (including the case citation) {NAME of the ARTICLE}
2. Date and Time of article (When was the article published?)
3. Category Filed (What category does it fall under…topic? See above)
4. Abstract (A brief Summary)
5. Facts/Issues (What are the facts and issues of the case?)

Abstract: The article reports the decision of different U.S. courts in different cases, as of April 2016. Several cases discussed include Cook v. Bennett related to violation of due process under Fourteenth Amendment; Cummerlander v. Patriot Preparatory Acad. Inc. related to violations of Fourth Amendment rights; and Brown v. Abstract: The article focuses on several U.S. court case related to higher education law. It mentions the case Wheatley v. Marietta College wherein students alleging the negligence of college security in place which resulted in rape, Theidon v. Harvard Univ. regarding gender discrimination for professor with denial in tenure and Doe v. The Ohio State University on restraining order and preliminary injunction for lack of jurisdiction to initiate disciplinary proceedings.
